Self Comparison

Most of us have someone we look up to and admire. We may admire this person for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons may include: their ambition, their work ethic, the way they carry themselves, their sense of style, their intelligence, their generosity, the success they’ve been able to accomplish, the list goes on and on. I believe it’s perfectly fine to have a role model because they often help us dive deep within and  bring out the best version of ourselves. Role models are great; today however I want to specifically address an issue that can often arise when it comes to self comparison. I believe self comparison can be an issue when we compare ourselves to others and then become unsatisfied with how far we’ve actually come in our own life journey.

When we compare ourselves to others its like comparing apples and oranges. We’re all human and are capable of achieving almost anything another human being can achieve  but we’re slightly different on the inside. I believe it’s all about your mindset and how determined you are to get to where you want to be. Your mindset is important because applied knowledge is powerful and for every action there is a result.  Some of us may have to work twice as hard to get there because circumstances may vary, however I truly believe with hard work and perseverance you will eventually see progress. We can be obsessed with  googling phrases such as “things successful people do differently” or entering in the search box of YouTube “how to be successful” most of these results will probably state something along the lines of:

  • Successful people wake up early
  • Successful people read a lot
  • Successful people never give up
  • Successful people aren’t afraid of failure.
  • Successful people blah blah blah blah blah

While this may be true, my point is there is no exact road map to success. You may be able to apply common habits into your daily routine, however you’re still going to have to carve out your own path. Even though you may not be where you want to be in life be proud of how much you’ve overcome and where you’re at today. If you’ve faced a setback now is the perfect time to make a comeback. Never put yourself down by comparing your life to someone else’s. Great things take time and there’s always someone who may wish they were in your shoes. Your journey will be unlike anyone else’s so as you continue to write your story be proud of how far you’ve come.
